Welcome Everyone to the Henry Larsen Elementary School
website. We are a suburban JK to Grade 8, triple-track school that first
opened in 1986. Our name was chosen by students to honour one of our true
Canadian heroes, Henry Larsen. In 1942, Henry Larsen and the good ship
St. Roch, became the first Canadian to navigate the Northwest Passage.
This great Canadian explorer demonstrated courage and ingenuity to overcome
the challenges he faced on his voyage. His memory inspires our students
to take up the challenge of learning, to take risks with their learning
and to strive to achieve to the best of their abilities.
Here at Henry Larsen Elementary School, our motto, "Through
caring and sharing, we learn", is reflected every day throughout
the school year. We learn when we take part in the many different charitable
and community activities, as well as through the sharing of our Canadian
culture through various student educational exchanges both nationally
and internationally.
Our School Improvement Plan focuses on Literacy, Numeracy
and School Culture and together our staff plan for learning experiences
that enhance our students' understanding and knowledge in these
areas and others. We are proud of our achievements as we continue to grow
and learn together.
Henry Larsen Elementary School also has an active parent
community that is always there to support student learning. As members
of our Professional Learning Community, parents volunteer in classrooms,
assist with supervision of field trips, fundraise, provide input on school
concerns and collaborate with teachers and staff to support our goal of
creative and successful classroom activities.
I am proud to be Principal of Henry Larsen Elementary
School and I look forward every day to serving and supporting this
wonderful community of learners. As I'm sure that Henry must
have said at least once in his illustrious journey...Welcome Aboard!
